The Payasam is a sweet dish made with rice, milk and sugar or jaggery. It is usually served on feasts or on special days. The Pal Payasam (pal means milk) looks good, smells good and tastes terrific!

De-husked rice – 1/4 cup
Milk- 1 ½ litre
Sugar- ¾ kg

For garnishing

Cashews- ¼ cup
Raisins – ¼ cup
Cardamom – 4
Ghee (for frying)

Method of preparation

For something that tastes yum, it’s really easy to make. All you need to do is mix all the ingredients together in a pressure cooker and cook on a high flame till you hear the first whistle.

Now lower the fire and cook for half an hour. Then garnish.

That’s it! You can serve it either straight off the fire or chilled.
